How do i take care of my houseplants?

New to houseplants? I have some advice for you, and even more if you click HERE!

1: 🌤️Plants perform photosynthesis; a process where a plant takes in sunlight and carbon dioxide (CO2), convert that into glucose (sugar), uses that glucose to grow and fertilize itself and with this process, the plant also produces its own oxygen (O2) so we can breathe. In order to be able for a plant to do this, it needs good light! Most of houseplants like to be infront or under a grow light or a nice window without any cold drafts and without any harsh direct light. Plants like cacti and succulents actually do enjoy direct light!

2: 🌊Plant parents often make the mistake of always only giving their plants a dash of water or watering with ice cubes... Yeah please don´t do that! First of all, ice cubes can send your plant into a shock and can cause problems, and when a tag on your orchid says to water with ice cubes, they are saying that knowing that your orchid will die so you buy a new one and the company makes more money. Second of all, giving a dash of water isn´t wrong, it is just a waste of potential. Giving a small dash of water can cause roots at the bottom of the pot to dry up and die and can cause hydrophobic (water-repellent) soil. You should try thorougly watering your plants! Just place it in the sink and let water flow through the pot and out of the drainage holes so that the plant is evenly hydrated.

3: 💩Fertilzing is important even though plants create their own sugar. Usually, the light plants get is not enough, and even if it is, plants need nutrients. You can add slow-fertilizer tablets in the soil or use a liquid fertilizer with the ratio  that it says on the box.

What basic tools do i need to take proper care of my plants?

In my opinion, tools are overrated. You can do most stuff with your hands. But, having tools to help you with plant care sure does add some charm to the hobby. I have gathered a some tools you might like!

  • 🏡Tiny trowel
  • 💧Watering can
  • ⚱️Cache/cover pots
  • 🍽Saucers
  • 💡Grow lights
  • 🔌Light meters
  • ✂️Pruners/shears
  • 🌫Humdifier
  • 🪵Moss poles for aroids
  • 🏷Plant labels
  • 🐝Pollinator
  • 📕Plant journal
  • 📦Something to keep your soil mix in
  • 🥫Pesticides
  • 🐛Good bugs
  • 🍄Beneficial fungi
  • 🪨Pebble trays for humidity
  • 🎽Microfiber cloths for cleaning leaves
  • 🔵Cork plant coasters
  • 🥛Watering globes
  • ⛺️Repot mat
  • 🧶Plant velcro
  • 🥕Rooting hormones
  • 🗿Slow-release fertilizer
  • 🦠Fungicide
  • 🧤Garden & cactus gloves
  • 🔪Tongs to handle cacti
  • 🥡Propagation containers
  • 🏺Propagation vases
  • 🌾Skewers sticks for measuring soil moistnes

And some for the garden:

  • 🧎‍♂️Kneeling pads
  • 🏡Rake
  • 🧹Hoe
  • 🗑Compost bin
  • ✂️Hand pruners
  • 🥄Soil scoop
  • 🧴Organic pesticides
  • 🪺Seed trays
  • ⛰️Seed starters
  • 🗃Seedling humidity box & soil

Why do some of my houseplants root easily in soil, and others don´t?

It is usually about the type of plant! Different plant genera have different types of roots. For example, Cyperus has quite small roots that almost cannot rot, meanwhile Strelitzia has really thick and tough roots.

🌊Now the reason that your plants might not be rooting well is because you might be watering wrong! Only a dash of water won´t even hydrate 25% of the soil, so that would mean that the roots at the bottom of the pot won´t grow down and grow more stable, so water thorougly with pots with drainage holes!
